New novel considers life after Armageddon

Author Ervin Sims presents a view of the future from a eschatological perspective in End of the Age

BELMONT, N.C. – End of the Age: The Ascendant by Ervin Sims explores what it might be like to live in the time of peace and plenty that takes place after the Battle of Armageddon.

In End of the Age, it is the year 953YOL, which is the 10th century of an era that rose out of the destruction surrounding Armageddon, and Paul Watanabe has just turned 21. Almost a thousand years before, the world was almost destroyed by war and natural disasters until Lord Emmanuel, King of the World, came from space claiming to be God and accompanied by immortal followers who said that they had lived on Earth before. People were free as long as they submitted to the rule of the king. There was only one religion and one ruler.

Having now graduated from high school and completed his universal service requirement, Paul is ready to ascend from minor status to the status of full citizen of the empire. From this time on, Lord Emmanuel’s government will hold him fully responsible for his behavior and decisions. He must follow orders as very few people opposed the king. After all, the planet and mankind had recovered, and people everywhere prospered leading follower to believe that their empire must be paradise.

With a keen interest in eschatology, or a branch of theology focused on the final events of mankind or the world, Sims speculates on the millennial reign of Christ as prophesized in the Bible. “Many today think of Armageddon as a metaphor for the end of the world and time. However, I believe that Armageddon is the end of one age of human history and the start of a new age,” says Sims. “Huxley wrote Brave New World and Orwell wrote 1984. In a similar manner, I am looking at the future from a dispensationalist [a study of periods in history in which God relates to human beings in different ways under different Biblical covenants] Christian perspective, and I see this future as one that is prosperous.”

Ervin Sims is a U.S. Army veteran and graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in human development and learning. He taught in high school for many years until he returned to graduate school in order to teach at the college level. He resides in Belmont with his wife. End of the Age is his first novel, and the plans for two follow up books are underway.
